The History of the Rolex 24

Nearly 60 years of American endurance racing excellence

The Rolex 24 at Daytona is the most prestigious endurance race in North America. First held in 1966 as the Daytona Continental, it has grown into the opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and a bucket-list event for racers worldwide.

The circuit combines Daytona International Speedway's famous 31-degree banking with a technical infield road course. The unique layout creates a challenge unlike any other: high-speed drafting on the oval, precision driving in the infield, and constant traffic management across multiple classes.

The race opens the motorsport season each January, attracting factory teams from Acura, BMW, Cadillac, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Mercedes-AMG. The cold Florida nights and the challenge of racing through dawn make it a true test of endurance.

Hurley Haywood and Scott Pruett share the record with 5 victories each. The race has attracted F1 champions like Fernando Alonsoand Juan Pablo Montoya, adding to its global prestige.

Winners receive the iconic Rolex Daytona chronograph—one of the most coveted prizes in motorsport.
