The History of Monza

Over a century of speed

Autodromo Nazionale Monza opened in 1922, making it one of the oldest purpose-built racing circuits in the world. Located in a royal park north of Milan, it has hosted a Grand Prix every year since 1950 (except 1980).

Monza is known as the Temple of Speed for good reason. Its long straights and fast corners produce the highest average speeds on the F1 calendar. Cars regularly exceed 360 km/h on the main straight, and the race is often decided by slipstreaming battles.

The circuit's iconic corners—Curva Grande, the Lesmo curves, Ascari, and Parabolica (now Alboreto)—have witnessed countless legendary moments. The old banked oval, though no longer used, still stands as a monument to the circuit's dangerous past.

But Monza is more than just a circuit—it's Ferrari's home race. The Tifosi, Ferrari's passionate fans, create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else. When Ferrari wins at Monza, the celebrations are legendary.

The Italian Grand Prix at Monza is a pilgrimage for F1 fans. The sea of red, the roar of the crowd, and the history in every corner make it one of the most special weekends in motorsport.
